The Gim river has carved a beautiful valley, Gimdalen, for which our village is named. Ancient glaciers have gouged pristine lakes with sandy beaches and all of this framed by rich forest covered hills. We have restored historic farmhouse, Mogården as an intimate lodge where our guests can immerse themselves in the peace and beauty of their surroundings. Owner/managers, Marika Griehsel and Simon Stanford are passionate about travel and have many years of experience arranging and guiding exclusive safari adventures in Africa and Scandinavia.

Fly fish in some of Sweden's best waters, explore the beautiful lakes and streams by kayak and boat. Join us for guided walks, cycle exclusive mountain trails or enjoy picking mushrooms and wild berries with a local expert. During the warm months the lakes offer refreshing bathing from white sandy beaches.

At the end of the day guests can relax in our wood fired sauna or hot tub while dinner is prepared from fresh, locally produced ingredients.

Here's a preview of some of the fishing waters:

Simon Stanford

I grew up on a cattle ranch in the high Drakensberg mountains of South Africa. The outdoors, fishing, hiking horse and riding have been a natural part of my life since childhood. I have for many years been able to combine my passion for the outdoors and for the conservation of nature with my work as a photojournalist. It is now my privilege to be able to share this passion with people who choose to travel with us at Afrika Select and Nordic Select Safaris or visit us at Mogården, our farmhouse in Northern Sweden.

 Marika Griehsel

I have always had a passion for the lakes and forests of Jämtland but already as a teenager my greatest interest was international politics and journalism. All other interests were set aside for journalism.
At 26 I became the SVT (Swedish Television) 's Africa correspondent and kicked off my career covering the release of Nelson Mandela from prison in 1990.
Since then South Africa has been my second home and together with my husband and partner I have travelled and reported from Africa for over 30 years.
For me, the outdoors, horseriding, hiking and just being out there is a balm for body and soul.
In Gimdalen village where my mother grew up I get a deep sense of belonging and I feel privilged to invite our guests to visit our farmhouse, Mogården.
